Continuing Support was conceived by Ontario Pen Pal students. This program allows Canadian students to continue to support their Kenyan friends’ education by raising money to fund the purchase necessary school supplies. Over 5000 notebooks, more than 400 textbooks and countless numbers of pencils have found their way to our Kenyan classrooms.
In the 2018-19 school year, more than $325 has been sent by local Hamilton students participating in the Pen Pal Program to Kenya for school supplies.
Continuing support is crucial. It takes many forms such as via donations through the Pen Pal Program or in-person gifts from both MAD Tour participants and even students from Lee Academy in Lynden, Ontario.
Over the past few months, Canadian travellers brought many suitcases of school supplies to a few Connecting Countries’ partner schools. Below are some pictures documenting this support: students displaying bags of vegetable soup mix from MAD Tour participants; new pencils to write with; and students at Kirima Primary School showing off toothbrushes and even new cotton undies for the young women!
