Positions Available

1. Website Manager
Purpose:
Connecting Countries Adopt-a-School has a new website. This site is our primary tool for communication to the world. The Volunteer Website Manager uses their expertise to regularly maintain / update this site. Candidates should have prior knowledge of web based content management systems (specifically Mezzanine, but experience with Wordpress would translate easily).
Key Responsibilities:
- Regularly maintain/update the site through: adding new text, photos and captions, removing and/or relocating existing text and photos,
- Keep site information current by suggesting additions, deletions to content and improvements to design
- Post content in an eye appealing fashion,
- Collaborate with communication committee members
Reports to: Communications Committee Head
Length of Appointment: Immediate availability, 1 year duration, extension by mutual agreement
Time Commitment:
- Approximately 5 hours per month, variable
- Most communication will be via email
Qualifications:
- Experience with website usage/creation
- Experience Django/Mezzanine (or similar CMS such as Wordpress)
- Understand the concepts of- "Volunteer" and "Not-for-Profits"
- Possess a passion to assist students in Canada and Kenya
2. Media Relations Writer
Purpose:
Connecting Countries Adopt-a-School wishes to have its story, programs and accomplishments reach local, national and international readers. To reach this end our growing charitable organization requires a Media Relations Writer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and utilize a variety of press and media sources
- Write articles, website text and blogs that enhance/promote CCAAS
- Collaborate with members of the communication committee
Reports to: Communication Committee Head
Length of Appointment: Immediate availability, 1 year duration, extension by mutual agreement
Time Commitment:
- Approximately 5 hours per month, variable
- Most communication will be via email
Qualifications:
- Fluency with written language
- Refined research skills
- Ability to write succinctly, descriptively and creatively to suit a variety of audiences (age groups, interest areas)
- Honed computer word processing skills
- Understand the concepts of- "Volunteer" and "Not-for-Profits"
- Possess a passion to assist students in Canada and Kenya
3. Graphic Designer
Purpose:
We are looking for a creative and talented graphic artist to help us create rich content for our website, print ads, pamphlets and more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help create digital content for our website and print ads
- Collaborate with team members to improve existing designs and images
Reports to: Web Designer, Communications Committee
Length of Appointment: 1 year, extension by mutual agreement
Time Commitment:
- Variable depending on current demand for content
- Averages 2-5 hours per week
Qualifications:
- Be highly creative.
- Have experience creating digital, professional quality content (web design, posters, ads, logos, etc).
- Be able to have flexible volunteer hours. Often we will need a piece of content created within a fairly short period of time (1 - 2 weeks).
- Be able to work with others. The ability to receive constructive criticism and use it to improve the final product is a must.
- Have the tools needed to create content. For example you must have your own copy of Photoshop, your own tablet, etc. You will complete your work remotely, but in person meetings may be required.
4. Parliamentarian
Purpose:
The Volunteer Parliamentarian uses their expertise in parliamentary rules and procedures (Robert’s Rules of Order) to aid the Connecting Countries Adopt-a-School Board of Directors in the writing and revision of documents such as: By-Laws; Standing Rules; Business Plans; Orientation Packages for New Directors; etc. Additionally, they can provide insight into improving meeting, committees, and Agendas / Minutes for maximum efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Offering guidance to the Chair and the Administration Committee to conform with standard parliamentary procedure and Robert’s Rules of Order.
- Offering insight into how parliamentary procedure and Roberts Rules may be simplified for a small Board.
- Directing the Board to templates and instructional books or websites about parliamentary procedure.
- Assisting with the editing / review of CCAAS parliamentary procedure documents (By-Laws, Standing Rules, etc.)
Reports to: Chair of the Board of Directors Administration Committee
Length of Appointment: 1 year, extension by mutual agreement
Time Commitment:
- Approximately 5 hours per month, variable
- Most communication will be via email and Word documents
Qualifications:
- Experience with Parliamentary Procedure
- Experience with Robert’s Rules of Order
- Experience with Volunteer Boards of Directors preferred
- Experience with Not-for-Profits preferred
