• Sanitation Building Program

We have been focussed on building latrines in Kenyan schools from the very start. We will continue to focus our attention to improve the sanitation conditions at our adopted schools in Kenya.

Through this building project’s attention to the link that exists between sanitation and education,  the cycle of poverty is being interrupted.

The United Nations declared 2008 as “The International Year of Sanitation” within developing countries. This global notice confirmed that Connecting Countries Adopt-a-School is on the right track.
As of May 2008, Connecting Countries Adopt-a-School acquired a building partner: FTC Canada, headquartered in Guelph, ON. Along with their affiliation with Feed the Children Kenya, FTC Canada has agreed to: inspect, offer recommendations and build on our behalf sanitation pit latrines in needy Kenyan schools.

Classrooms within our “Partner Schools” from the greater Hamilton area have become so committed to improving Kenyan school sanitation that their collective efforts have funded the building of a total of 66 sanitation pit latrines in Kenyan schools since 2005. Our most recent latrine construction prject will be completed by Feb. 2010.

“I thank you very much. The latrines have really changed the face of our school and they look like an oasis in a desert because they are the only stony and finished structure in the whole compound.”

“We celebrated the school’s improved K.C.P.E performance up from M.S.S. of 194, 2008 to M.S.S. 220, 2009. This is a clear indication of what an institution can do with improved facilities like you have kindly put in place to assist us.”
